My jurisdiction is: California
I am 17 years old, turning 18 in a little over a month. I currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment with my mom and her boyfriend, who is on house arrest. My younger brother and sister live with my dad and stepmom 20 minutes away. There has always been severe tension between me and my dad, so i finally moved out of his place almost a year ago to live with my mom full time for the first time since i was 11. (good homes, but history of drug and alcohol abuse on both parents' sides and bipolar, depression, anxiety, and OCD on my mom's.) For the past few years, I've struggled with my grades at school and as of last week, I'm no longer enrolled.
There's a lot of tension at home. Mom is stressed about finances (child support, etc.) and she's barely making enough to pay the bills.
I've been in family counseling since I was 10 and I just recently started seeing a psychiatrist for depression and anxiety.
I ran away for a few days around this time last year (basically because I couldn't stand the pressure at home) and I "ran away" again last wednesday and came home sunday night.
My parents have had it with me and my irresponsibility and want to send me to a boarding school in Utah.
Here's my question... They plan on shipping me off to Utah in the next 2 or 3 weeks. By that time, I'd be 18 in a week. Can I refuse to go and legally be able to live on my own once i turn 18? I already have a full time job lined up and 2 other people who are ready to rent an apartment with me. I'm aware of the expenses, etc. And I'm working on taking online courses to get my diploma and enroll at a community college by next fall. But my mom is saying that because of my "mental state", I'm unable to take care of myself and I'm incapable of thinking clearly. What am I able to do once I turn 18 considering the current situation? (<--not in high school, "mental" state..)
PLEASE HELP
