Husband is threatening to throw all my personal belongings out

My husband and I have been together for about 15 years, throughout this time our relationship has been rocky for more than half the marriage. He's been abusive, violent and even a terrible father at times. I am heading out of town with the kids for their summer vacation. He threatened to throw all my personal belongings outside our house and even in front of my sisters house if I leave town. We live in Virginia, my question is, is this legal?

Sure it is, if it is actually joint property from your marriage. He may not be permitted to dump the property on your sister's property if she tells him not to do so as it would be trespassing but he can get rid of anything which is his, even if you use it more often.
