My mother just passed away. My sister claims I am not to get any of mom's jewelry or anything. She said there is no will. She claims she is executor and has been since 2003. I have been accused of stealing jewelry and since I live 300 mikes away it's kind of hard to just pop over and take anything, especially since I didn't have a set of keys to her apartment. I just need to know what I can do to see if there is a will.

If there is no will then your sister is executor of nothing.
If you want to claim anything that belonged to mom then you will want to contact and speak with a probate attorney. They can help you with any questions about a will and how to distribute property.

Even with a will, these issues will enter into some form of probate. My mother-in-law had an uncontested will, no debt, and a listed executor that no one opposed. Yet, the matter was still in probate for almost a year before there was any disbursement.

As MM mentioned, speak to a probate attorney ASAP.
