How to confirm the existence of a lawsuit

I was told by a potential customer that my competitor may be involved in a lawsuit regarding product failure. The potential customer would not provide details, but denies that it is them filing the suit. Also I was told that the lawsuit was filed by a company that resides in a different state than my competitor. When a company files suit against another company in a different state which state would the suit be filed? Are the documents public information? If so how could I obtain that information?

Try the website of the court that has jurisdiction. Otherwise take a trip to the county clerks office. The information is public, you just have to find the right court to obtain it. It should be the county court where either of the two parties is located, unless it is in federal court.
