how common is it for stores to pursue a possible shoplifting incident months after it has occurred? or do they normally either nip it in the bud at the moment, or wait for the person to show up again? thanks in advance.
No one can say for certain what will happen. I want to make that clear right off the bat. However it is the norm to press charges within 48 hours of event
thank you for your prompt reply! after pressing charges, how long does it typically take for police to show up? the incident i'm referring to was in the amount of $5 approximately 4 months ago
i'm just paranoid! it was a small price tag switch in the fitting room and i think the cashier noticed that the tag had the wrong numbers on it but she gave me a new tag anyway! i promptly returned the item the next day because i felt so awful; it was the first and only time i'll ever do anything of that sort.
i was just wondering how paranoid i should remain as i really don't think there was any way to pin the wrong tag on me as it was in a very cluttered store with high inventory turnover and i didn't do it in plain sight.
thanks admin for your rapid answers. you're taking a burden off of my brain.
first and only time, i promise ;_; i've been beating myself up over it for ages!
do you think that if the store DID pursue something like this, i would have heard from police already?
and since i had gone back two days later to return it, wouldn't they have been alerted that i was in the store already as the purchas was connected to my CC?
Any answer we might give would only be a guess and in no way tell you anything more than what you already know. What I mean to say is I dont want to give you either false hopes or fears
