My HOA asked for yearly dues and a road fund assessment of 655$. I wrote a check for $660. and wrote donation in the memo meaning the $5 extra was a donation for flowers in the front entrance. Now I get a letter saying I owe the $655 plus attornesy fee of $110. and interest of 39$. In the past they have taken checks marked donation in place of dues and several other people wrote donation on their check and they had them sign some statement saying the board could apply it to dues. Any advice? Thank you
