My car hit a fire hydrant around the corner from my house and has been parked in a parking space out front for the past week and half or so. There is noticeable damage to the tire and wheel, but so far it has not gotten a citation for being parked there. The fire hydrant that was damaged was repaired within the next day. Nothing was reported to the police or insurance.
I have intended to sell the car and relocate to a different rental to be without a car and have someone coming to look at the car in the morning, so I may no longer have it as soon as tomorrow.
I was out of town for the past couple of days and upon returning home, a roommate said a police officer stopped by and had some questions regarding the accident my car was in and to give him a call, leaving his card.
How should I handle this?
What would happen if I simply sold the car tomorrow morning and did not call the officer?
Thanks!
