In November 2003, while I was in college my sister and I went for orthodonic treatment. The insurance says they never gave authorization for braces, and the orthodonic office said lost both files with the authorization paperwork. After two years of unsuccessful appeals with the insurance, my mom filed bankruptsy for the amount of both of our braces. My mom signed paperwork saying she was legally responsible for the payments. After running my credit report I just found out I have a collection against me. The collection agency states that even though my mom was the one who signed ALL the documents because I was over 17 I am responsible for the debt. We are in escrow to buy a house and I need some advice.
