harrasment, can I sue civil

My girlfriend was being harassed by an ex of hers. He sent her text messages of her doing sexual acts that are clearly fake. Then he sent them to my email and I saw them. It caused a huge argument between us. The he sent me a letter containing more photos. Some of them are from her personal computer, so he either had to break into the computer, or she would've had to given them to him. Since I know she didn't give them to him (they had a really bad break-up) He broke into her computer.
She has a temporary restraining order against him. Can she sue civilly for defamation or something?
