Hello,

I'm new here. I had a former landlord threaten to take me to court, and then garnish my wages when she won for breaking the lease if I moved out. Then she turned around and gave me a three day notice to quit. Not for failing to pay me rent (I paid it), but for not giving her all of the security deposit up front. An atorney told me that the landlord could not garnish my wages for rent in the state of Kansas... Is this true? for some reason that did not sound right to me because the landlord kept threatening to do just that.

From what I know, they have to win a judgement against you before they can garnish wages. So they have to sue you first, and win.
