Foreign Debt

Hi,
I have just received a letter from a debt collection agency for an outstanding balance from a UK credit card. The debt originated in 2002.
I currently reside in Wisconsin. Is a debt collections agency able to take me to court for a debt that originated in another country?

If the contract under which the obligation was formed I don't see why not. (i am not an attorney)
