forcible entry and detainer

I was just in court for a forcible enrty and detainer possession hearing I am the plantiff but I took money from the defendant after I posted the pay or quit notice because I was unaware that if you take only partial payment you are waiving the right for eviction so the judge said to post another pay or quit on the premises and wait 3 day and then go back to court. I understand all of this but I am trying to figure out how I am guaranteed payment and why the judge couldn't make a payment judgement today?

From my understanding of the notice requirements: This is because your notice probably didn't state that acceptance of partial payment doesn't waive your right to terminate the lease. So once you've accepted the partial payment you would need to then send another notice.
