Today I got a 86 in a 65. I am ordered to appear for a mandatory court date in about a month. I have read the law and I am amazed that I could actually loose my license for 30 days.

I have a couple questions that NC drivers may be able to answer:

The speed on the ticket is 86 and I would say that is probably correct, is there are chance that the court will reduce the speed I am charged with?

What kind of fine am I looking at?

How many insurrance points am I looking at?

Anyone have success hiring a local lawyer?

Thanks,
Stan

Did you see the thread on a Prayer for Judgment?

North Carolina Prayer for Judgement

As a South Carolina driver you are not eligible for the North Carolina Prayer for Judgement. My information, which you need to verify with the NC DMV, is that if the ticket is reduced to an under 15mph violation they will not report it back to South Carolina.

This may have changed so be sure to verify it with the DMV and do not take the word of an attorney. By this time you have probably be inundated with letters from attorneys offering to represent you.

If you can return to the court you probalby can do it on your own. Just call the ADA and see when they are open. If you do that the reduction is a standard procedure. If not then one of the attorneys should be able to take care of it or there is a link on this site and I can also provide some recommendations.

However many of them are not familar with how it works state to state so be sure to talk to the DMV instead.
