I have been charged with false information to police and perjury. Now, at my arraignment I pleaded not guilty, of course. One question that I have is that when I was brought in for questioning the first time, I was never told to have a lawyer. I was forced to answer questions that I didn't want to. I thought it was best to cooperate. Then when I was arrested, I had to sign a citation to appear in court, but was never read my miranda rights. There is a deal that the felony (perjury is a felony in VT) will be dropped, but I will have the misdemeanor (false information to police officer) on my record and serve at least 90 days. This case has been open since April, and is more complicated to explain. Due to the police inconsistancies, is there a chance that things can change and is this a civil rights violation? I have not been in trouble before, and have never gotten a ticket. Senior in college.
