I have a product that is already in use, but I have an idea on how to improve it. However, the technology that would improve it is already in use for different applications. Is there legal protection for my idea?

For example, lets say that in the early 1900's someone wanted to use a combustible engine to power a sawmill. The combustible engine was already invented and so was the saw mill, but the 2 had never been combined.

But, in the 1900's as is true today, you can make an motor. They won't stop you, if you have enough money.

Move to a foreign country, make it there and don't sell it in Amerika.
