hello forum. this is my first post, and pardon the informal grammar typeset. I am looking for advice about how to proceed about my current situation. 8 days after i turned 21, back in 1999, i got a DUI. Within the next year, i got pulled over twice. One time i was charged with a driving while license revoked, along with a driving w/o insurance. the other time i was charged with driving w/o insurance, and a few other minor things which i recently took care of (finally). Anyways, 3 years later, i got another DUI, and as of this week, I took care of all that entailed. So I am trying to finally drive legally (I havent driven in over 3 years). the NC DMV says I still have to clear up the DWLR and driving w/o insurance. So how should I go about this? Hire a lawyer? If i get some basic liability insurance, will that take care of the 2 previous charges of DWOI? And also, if I go talk to the DA, can i get the DWLR charge dropped, asking the DA for time served (as far as the penalty goes for that charge). I can't wait to drive again. I'd rather not hire a lawyer to take care of this, unless that's the best route to go. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to consider my situation.

Yes, hire a lawyer.

thanks for the advice, but is there any other way to go about it? Would I be wasting my time if I talked to the DA in person, showing current proof of insurance, and every other citation taken care of? All that would be left is the DWLR, which was 7 years ago. Thanks again for your reply and consideration.

Yes, you may try to deal with the prosecutor directly.

But, considering your record, the prosecutor may be hesitant to talk to you without a lawyer.
