Criminal Law DUI and F-4 Visa

Hello,

I am a Korean American with American citizenship. Unfortunately I have recently been convicted of my first misdemeanor DUI. I have been reading on posts for teaching English in Korea that even a DUI will prevent me from obtaining a work visa. Is this true even for the F-4 Visa? Will this create any problems for me visiting Korea or Japan?

Unfortunately a criminal record does tend to be an impedement to getting a visa. On the visa application form it will require you to state what criminal convictions you have had - just be honest, explain the situation in detail and in all likelihood your visa will be approved by the embassy or consulate - but just be aware that this is not 100% guaranteed - so if you are planning to travel - GET YOUR VISA FIRST, before buying your plane ticket and organising accomodation etc!
