I am a U.S. citizen and living overseas in asia. Can I be charged or prosecuted for downloading movies or tv shows from the internet? If I can be charged can they charge me in absence in the U.S. or put a claim on my assets in the U.S. while living overseas. Where I am living at. A lot of tv shows I like. Are not available to view on the local tv.

I'm not sure if this post is in the right section for posting.

I can appreciate your position in wanting to have programs made available to you in places where they are not offered. That doesn't change any rules with regard to allegations of copyright violations. For example, if a movie wasn't being shown in your country or DVD made available, it doesn't make it "right" if you bought a cloned DVD to watch the movie in Asia. The producer of the DVD makes nothing off of that sale. The same goes for the broadcast, where there is typically some exchange for the ability to view, e.g. pay per view, monthly cable fee, advertising revenue, etc.
