Hello. In 1997 when I was 24 I was arrested for procuring alcohol for a 20 year old. This was treated as a violation, and I plead guilty (paid $50 fine) Some employment applications ask if I've ever been arrested for a criminal offense... I have been answering yes, albeit I was not charged with a misdemeanor or felony.

Is this violation on my permanent record? Can a violation be expunged in the State of New York? If so, how does one go about doing that. I have not re-offended in any way since then.

Thanks,
Steve

What shows up on a background check depends entirely on the depth and thoroughness of the background check. All background checks are not created equal.

Thanks for the response. I was unaware that there were various types of background checks. Any idea on expungement for the state of NY. I hate having a small violation following me!
