What legal documents should I have that provide proof that I own my home free & clear in California after I have paid off my loan?

You need some document from the institution that had your mortgage that the loan has been paid off. With that they cannot later come and say you still owe them money, and make sure there are no other liens on your house. A lien is a document filed at the county recorders stating that they have an interest in the house because of a debt that you owe. Check with the county recorders office in your area for that. You also need the Deed to your house with your name (and others, if any). Good luck

There should be a cancellation of the mortgage or security deed recorded with the county. That is proof positive of your house being paid off.

You need to have the documentation that proves the cancellation of the mortgage record of your house, which shows that the loan has been paid off.
