I have a few questions concerning a default judgement trial. I have been out of work almost a year due to an injury and it is being held in another state. What happens if you cannot appear at the default jdgement trial? I have never been in any kind of trouble so that has me worried and what happens afterwards? My main concern is can I go to jail at any time over this, nd what happens if a judgement is put on me? I live in NC and the trial is in GA.

What kind of case is it?

It is over an old loan for a computer. It was made back in 1999 but I don't have the computer anymore.

If you do not appear in court, a default judgment will be entered against you.

The creditor will then try to get the money you owe them.

but can I get put in jail for not appearing or If i cannot pay the judgement?

No.

That was abolished in this country about three hundred years ago.

It was in all the papers.

Google personal jurisdiction. If they have jurisdiciton, they will transfer the judgment to NC and try to collect. To prevent that you need to file an answer and have a defense, such as the SOL.

If they do not have jurisdiction, you can wait until they transfer the judgment and then try to have it set aside for lack of jurisdiciton. Then they can refile in NC.
