deceased person debt

Generally the estate of the deceased is liable for his/her medical debts. However, in some states including Kansas a spouse can sometimes be liable for deceased spouse's medical debts under the doctrine of necessaries. You can talk to the probate lawyer or your own lawyer re any responsibility you might have re med. debts.

Am I legally responsible for my deceased husband's medical bills??

I'm so sorry for your loss. As if you're not grieving, in come the scavengers to steal whatever you have left.

Even if you are responsible, if the debts are insurmountable and financially crippling, consider filing a bankruptcy. Talk to a BK lawyer if the debts are killing you, too.
