My Dad died 18+ yrs ago (Jan '88) in a hospital on a respirator. He did not have a will.
His 2nd wife divorced him the day before he died.
Dad (his name only-not joint) had a checking and savings account amounting to $5,000+.
In 1990 his ex-wife threatened me and my 3 sisters that if we were to get the money out of the bank, she would bill us for his funeral, etc.
Instead of battling with the evil woman, we did not persue getting the bank account money as none of us sisters had money for a lawyer.
We have the account #'s and amounts that were in the bank in FL in 1990. The trouble is the bank was bought out by Bank of America since then. What happens to accounts that were inactive at the time of the new bank taking over?? If the money was still in his old accounts, how do i find out if new bank showed it as unclaimed?? or if the evil ex-wife lied and got the money?
It's not listed in FL Unclaimed Property.
