Crooked dealer or repo man?

I paid the last payment to a make-shift motorcycle dealer on my motocycle but still owed $300 since the payments had been a month late for the final twelve payments. The dealer sent a repo man after the bike. I then wrote the repo man a check fo $550 to take care of his fee and the final amount due to the dealer. The check was cashed by the repo man but the dealer claims he never got the money. Is the dealer obligated to honor this cashed check and give me my bike back? Should he go after the repo man or will I have to get the $550 back?

If the repo man was acting as an agent for the dealer, then the check should be considered pament in full. What did the repo man say when you gave him the check, and did he give a receipt for the fees and arrears of payment? Take it to small claims. Sue them together as dealer and sub contractor. The truth should come then.
