Covert operations by Insurance Company

How does an individual stand when they have comprehensive proof that the whole family has been filmed (including teenagers). A very large Insurance Company has used the services of a "cowboy" covert outfit. They also know that the evidence gathered does not jeopardise the claim that has been running for 3 years! Of course most investigations like this are not contended due to the fact that the insured has been found out or never gets to know what has taken place...... An unusual set of circumstances isn't it! Is this a breach of human rights and the child protection act? I would of thought it is certainly a defamation of character! After all isn't insurance taken out in "good faith" Ha Ha.
So the questions are:-
1 How does this individual stand legally?
2 What would happen if they were to make it public through the
media with a view to exposing the under handed way in which
they have been treated.
Watch this space for some real fire works!

Any advice on this would be very welcome.
