My girlfriend is a learner driver who was caught driving uninsured on what we thought was private property, but turned out to be a public road. The officers speaking to her told her she would be charged with two offences and was likely to be banned from driving, and that she would recieve a letter from the courts in the next 2-4 weeks. Months passed and we assumed that the officers had decided to let her off. Nearly 5 months after the incident, after buying a car and paying for many hours of lessons, she has recieved a court summoning for the charges, which she plans to plead guilty to and is likely to now lose her licence so she is now left with a car she can't drive and has wasted 100s of pounds on lessons. My question is can she take any action against either the magistrates or the officers for taking so long to process the charges and court summoning? She has a car she can't drive and has wasted 100s of pounds on lessons.
