Contingency cases

What parameters do attorneys use to determine when they will take a case on a contingency basis?
I notice automobile accidents, medical malpractice, ... are often taken on contingency.

I would think whether the lawyer believes there is a good chance of winning, the cost to prepare for the case, the amount they will hopefully win ........
