We had our EZ pass taken from us one morning going to church. Even though she put money on it about an hour or so before we left (it reflected the new balance on the computer), we were told by the toll officer that it takes24-48 hours to show. We explained what we saw anyway. do they have the right to take the device?

You should be able to show later that you had paid in advance and get the equipment returned.
