my friend was recently caught with roughly 26 g of cocaine. He is a first time offender, age 18 still in high school. He is an honor roll student with acceptances to several prestigious colleges. He is a resident of michigan, how serious of a conviction is he facing.

That's amost $30,000 at street value level. That's a lot of friggin' coke for an 18 year old to have. Way more than personal use. It is a very serious conviction he's facing.

Depending on the case expect to serve some jail time. But that's not really the issue here. What the issue here is the fact he's 18 and has coke. He needs to readjust his lifestyle, because now he's gonna have a hell of a time trying to find meaningful employment, even possibly attending certain schools.

Michigan has pretty tough drug laws. Have a look at this article and you get an idea:

Simple possession of 26g will get him a prison term of up to 4 years. But if they convict him of possession with intent to sell it is up to 20 years.

MCL § 333.7401 and 333.7043
