I live in Texas and I was on the chat site omegle.com. I was talking to a girl and she offered me "dirty pics." Being a teenaged boy, I said yeah. I got hit with some legal-ese saying that what I just did was illegal and that my IP address has been recorded. I am 18 and the girl I was talking to was 17. Was what I did illegal? If so, what kind of consequences are we talking here? I'm pretty scared.

The legal-ese was very specific and sighted sub-sections of all sorts of things that I am not familiar with. It looked really official. Could it just be a really in depth prank?

It could be a prank. Often times there are citizen groups, or citizens I guess who have nothing better to do, that like to pose as underage kids on chat sites and catch people.

There is a possible question of entrapment. Did she contact you first? It does read like she was the first to bring up the sending of naked photos. . .

Plus, your very close to this "fake" person age wise. . .I would hope if it were police they'd go with a younger age then within a 1 year length of time.

There are lots of Police stings and civilian groups that use decoys to lure preditors out. This might be legit meaning you could be in serious trouble! Do not reply to this message but save it. Stay off that site and do not engage in this type of chat again and cross your fingers. What does it say exactly? Who sent it?

Yes- what you did was illegal. Though she is 17, it still counts as child pornography. Find more wholesome things to do with your time and stay out of this mess. Having recorded your IP is really nothing, but enough hits on the same IP might lead to a warrant to seize the computer at some point. Nobody can prove who was sitting at the computer though... but if the computer belongs to you then you will be in possession of it.
Quit fooling around. Read a book.
