I was caught stealing two years ago from StoreName, when I was 14. I am now 16, and I'm hoping someone could help me out. I was handcuffed by the police, and taken to the police department. I stole a total of $10 of merchandise, and a few months later, my parents got a bill for $200. A couple months after that, I went to a local Teen Court, where I was under the impression that this would be erased from my permanent record after a certain amount of time. Does anyone know how long that would be? And will it truly be erased from my record? One more question: I'm going to begin applying for jobs soon, so in the section that talks about crime, should I make note of this? And will it ruin my chances of getting a job? Thank you so much in advance.

And also, I am very remorseful of this. I know that what I did was wrong, and I have not shoplifted since then. So if you plan on lecturing me, please don't post. Thank you.

Its difficult to answer your questions about records and jobs without knowing the disposition of your case. Were you part of a diversion, ACD or first offender program? Was your case dismissed after completion of probation. Without knowing that its hard to answer. Far as lecturing goes we do not do that there you are confused with other sites less understanding. If tha thappens report the offense to me and I will remove the comment

If you have a conviction or your name was placed into a retail theft database I would not apply at any retail stores

Apply at stores, but you may be denied employment due to the negative hit on the system. You will not be able to gain employment at the place you stole from. On applications, the company usually says they use a company USMA, USIS, Choicepoint etc to run retail theft convictions. You can kiss those jobs goodbye.

Good luck to you and steal no more.
