Case management conference statement

My father was sued for allegedly hitting someone with his cane, he is elderly. There is going to be a case management conference next month and I am wondering whether he needs to submit a case management statement, using the form available for this purpose . He has no representation and doesn't want to get one. I downloaded the form and told him to take it to a paralegal. Was that correct? Thank you.
