Can someone who's in jail for 8 months be deported even though they have a green card ? He has been charged with aggregate assault and aggregate battery and can he replied for a green card?

Yes, it is certainly possible he could be deported. Does he have a criminal immigration attorney he can ask questions to? The attorney should know the laws in the state where the crime was committed.

Deportation isn't just possible here - it's actually more than likely.

If he's deported, the chances of him qualifying for permanent residency afterwards is virtually zero. The US is not fond of violent criminals and he'd be likely looking at a lifetime ban...and this includes being unable to even visit for a vacation.
