Can IRS take my social security check?

I am low income disabled living on social security (or, TRYING TO) -- I just found out that I did my 2007 taxes wrong and I owe $1276 to the IRS.

Can they deduct any amount from my monthly Social Security check?

I already eat from food banks trying to exist on what little monies I have. I don't have cable tv and my internet is free. I can barely afford to wash my clothes once every three months.

Are you on Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), or on Supplemental Security Income (SSI)? In this case, the distinction between the two is extremely important.
