I'm a Canadian living in the U.S. on a student visa. My fiance has a gun charge on his record from the past and has served his time. (I believe a year?)
If we marry here, as I doubt he can get across the border to marry in Canada, will he have to go through exactly the same process (rehabilitation papers) or would it be easier?
Thank you.

It may be an issue, especially if it's a felony. But you can determine for sure what you may encounter by looking here, which is the official Canadian web site for immigration and this link should directly address your issue:

Application to sponsor a member of the family class

Good luck!
