Can a lien be placed on a joint tenant home if a judgment is placed against my husband only?

My husband lost a civil lawsuit and now is awaiting for the final statement from the court. He will owe a substantial amount of money that he will most likely not be able to pay. Can the plaintiff/collectors go after my House and sell the property to collect the debt that he owes? Am I entitled to any of the money if the collectors are able to sell the house? Am I protected against anything?

Husbands and wives are generally jointly and severally liable for most things. Yes, your home might be in jeopardy because of California's community property laws.

If you owned the home before the marriage, you might be off the hook.

I suggest you discuss the matter with a CA lawyer just to be safe.

Here is a link re Ca. debts/judgments for informational/educational purposes. I agree with speaking with a lawyer though.
