Bills of a husband that has passed away

Hi, My friends husband has passed away suddenly. She is paying the hospital stay in monthy installments, but he had credit cards and other bills in his name that are piling up...can you advise how she is to handle this...does she pay the bills, does she send the death certificate to the creditors? what is the process for her to follow?

Assuming the bills are only his, she can send them a copy of the death certificate and notify them that there was no estate. Since she will get phone calls for the next ten years, an unlisted number would be a good idea.
