best way to get trial date extended for speeding ticket???

I am trying to get out of this speeding ticket.
unfortunately my trial is at the end of this month and I am not ready.
its in a small court in a small town.

I have to write a letter to the judge to request a motion for extension.
any idea what would be the best excuse.

I wanted to say surgery or something but she could ask for some kind of document to prove.

I am asking is there any valid reason I could come up with to get my court date extended with out lying, cheating or doing anything immoral or unethical.

Ok,that is different. My best recommendation is simply tell the truth. Tell him you feel you need more time in which to prepare and adequate defense. At that point it is the judge's decision.

I once had to get an extension becasue my job was requiring me to be out of town. It was not hard, all I did was write aletter to the judge and take it to the court. i had a response within a day.
