Beneficiary emancipation

I wish to disqualify myself as beneficiary in a dead relative's last will and testament. A morphine-addled dying relative set up a trust for me to eventually receive money that I do not wish to receive. The money should ideally be rerouted to a younger relative.

The dead relative actually passed 5 years ago, and I just found out about the bequest. The money would start arriving after the deceased person's spouse dies. I do not wish to invalidate the will, nor challenge the competency of the departed. I have to believe that I can not be forced to accept a monetary bequest (for tax reasons alone.)

How can I emancipate myself from this eventuality, and can I "re-bequeath" the benefit to a more appropriate, deserving relative? Can anyone advise?

Thank you.

You don't have to take it but you can't say where it will go.

There should be no tax consequences to you, the estate pays the taxes. Take the money and give it to charity (for tax reasons).
