Assault & Battery battery victim at work

bout 2 weeks ago at my retail job my supervisor put his hands on me grabbing me by my arm then verbal abusing me. i went to my store manager. finally after a week of having to work for this supervisor and deal with more verbal abuse they finally fired him. before i found out i put in my two week notice for my own safety cause it looked as if they werent gonna fire him. was i done wrong? should they have done more to ensure my safety after the battery happened? can i claim a lawsuit against the company? thank you to all
