I hired a law firm to represent me in a personal bankruptcy case for $1600.00. Due to a mistake by my attorney the US trustee became angry and demanded extra hearings and papaerwork. The case dragged on for 6 months and I payed an additional $2000.00 which I thought would cover everything. After being granted a chapter 7, my laywer gave me a bill for an addittional $1100.00 and told me I could pay as much as I could afford each month.
I have proposed $25 a month and now the lawyer is pressuring me for at least $100/month.
If I had $100 extra a month, I would not have qualified for a Chapter 7 and the lawyer knows this.
What happens if I just pay the $25. I don't have any binding contract stating the monthly amount required.
I think it's absurd that I have to pay nearly triple the original fee anyway.
