Today I received a certified letter for citation for civil contempt from Asset Acceptance L.L.C. It was delivered at my P.O. Box. This is a 13 year old credit card debt that has been bought and sold too many times. I cannot afford to pay this old debt nor go to court on this date. What rights do I have? Will I be arrested. My legal address is Illinois but I reside in Indiana and the citation is from an Indian court. Please give me some insight. Thanks A.

Did the info come from the court?

If so, then go to the hearing.

If you do not go, then they can get a default judgment against you.

Yes. This citation did come from the court. I am afraid to go. Doesn't that mean consent? What would I tell a judge? There is only a two letter initial athe the Deputy Clerks signature spot and a slight imprint from an impression stamp. What rights do I have? Is there anyway I can learn what to say in my defense? Thanks so much for your reply. A.

If you owe the bill pay it.

The fact that you do not have money is no defense.

If you do not show up, a default judgment will be entered against you.
