Shoplifting information for my defense

Hi, I was caught stealing some athletic clothes at a military exchange that are totaled to about $100 worth. I am a dependent military child, my father retired from the Military as a Chief Petty Officer. I wasnt arrested and I gave them everything I took. They said they also caught me on surveilance that I was stealing. I am supposed to have a court date sent to me in the mail. I am very scared. What do I do ? And what could happen to me ?

Hi, I'm 18 years old and I am a dependent military child. I've never done anything to get in trouble. This is the 1st time anything has every happened and I had nothing on my records. And I was caught shoplifting athletic clothes that totaled about $100 worth. I'm really scared because I am 18 and I don't know what to do. I am very scared to go to jail. Does anyone know what could happen to me? And what I could do to know that I'll be okay? And will this ruin my chances of going to college? I'm praying that this can just go by. Please Im begging for any real helpful answers.

For those who may not know, the poster's reference to NEX, http://www.mynavyexchange.com/ is the Navy equivalent of the combined Army and AF AFEES http://www.aafes.com/about-exchange/ and the Marine Corps http://www.mymcx.com/ and last, but not least the Coast Guard's equivalent https://shopcgx.com/

These are stores on military bases that serve the military community (active, retired, and reserve).

You say "child", does that mean you are at least 18 years old?
Or, are you, indeed, a minor (not yet 18 years old)?

If you are a minor or an adult, your trial will be held before a federal magistrate, prosecuted by a US Attorney.
In most cases, the US Attorney is a military JAG, with special authority to serve as an Assistant US Attorney in these kinds of cases.
The trial will be held on base, usually at the Justice Center.
Be advised, my experience is from the US Army, and in some cases, I'm told that some bases and camps choose to prosecute those cases at the nearest US Courthouse.

In most cases, an MP or SP Officer (or senior NCO) will contact you or your parents.
The sponsor always gets notified, too.
The MP or SP will often offer you a deal.
The deal is community service, pay a fine or penalty, and probation.
You complete the deal and service, the charge gets wiped away.
Unfortunately, the "wipe away" part is often "misleading".
Before you accept any deal, have an attorney review the deal.
Make sure the deal is everything it claims to be, and in the case of minors, your parent(s) must approve the deal.

In the interim, you wait, stay out of more trouble, and don't ever think of doing something so stupid again!!!!

Don't open NEW accounts to post the same question.

You're an adult, not a child.
Plead NOT guilty, ask the court to appoint an attorney.
As an adult, you'll also lose your exchange privileges pursuant to a conviction or a plea.
