adverse possession, do I need to file?

I have owned property for 36 years. There is a garage on the property that was built 57 years ago. Neighbor has had a survey done which shows my garage is encroaching on her property by 6 feet. Do I need to file adverse possession and if so how?

I suggest you consult with an attorney before doing anything.

Adverse possession can cut both ways, much like a Bowie knife.

It could be that your neighbor has the ability to assert adverse possession (as in ownership) of your garage.

This can be a very slippery slope.
