Have you provided proper notice of the problem as required in your lease? This is usually a written notice regardless of any discussions that have taken place.
What have you already done to try to resolve this?

You can fix it. That's what I'd do, hire someone to repair it. Then see if the LL would reimburse me. If he r she doesn't, at least you won't melt.
