Mom just realized for the last 72 years she's made quarterly payments of $184.30 to the Veterans Admin on a $10,000 life insurance policy. Can/would the VA continue to accept payments that far exceed the value of the policy?

Depends on the kind of policy and the terms and conditions.

When I was in the Army, back in the late 60s, I had $10,000 SGLI (Serviceman's Group Life Insurance).

When I got out the choice was to convert it to whole life or let it lapse. I let mine lapse.

If your Mom converted to whole life and the cash value exceeds the death benefit she could have the option of cashing in the policy.

Before she makes that decision, could you upload a copy of the policy, redacting any identifying information. Scan it to a pdf.

I'm the insurance guy here. I can explain the policy but I have to see the whole thing.
