Well, me and a friend of mine stole 57dollars combined from a store and we got out court date in the mail. Im not sure on what I should do.

Start calling Lawyers many offer free consultations get as many as you can. When you meet with these Lawyers ask about Diversion as option

What does a diversion do, would it keep it off of my record or what, Im gonna get a public defender for it

Diversion programs (when available) vary so ask your Attorney. However in most cases once you complete program your case is dismissed. This means no criminal record

would that just make me pay a fine and community service and like if i dont do anything bad for a year its gone?

alright thanks for the advice, how would i get a public defender? wait till my court and proove that i dont make the income to afford a attorney?

The procedure for getting a PD varies so call courthouse and ask

Had court the other day, I went in and wasnt there for even 5 minutes. I went to sign in with the lady at the counter that gives the papers and folders i went too her and then when she couldnt find my name in the folders she looked down and it was in a stack on the desk and she said the charges have been droped. I asked her if it was on my record and she said no. But she said to keep a look out for the mail, so im not sure what could be in it.

Its a "civil" fine states allow retailer to collect

Yeah i got the letter in the mail today 200bucks. Which aint that bad i suppose, coulda got on my record..
Is this hopefully the end of this or will they end up trying to press charges?

No one can say for sure but the likihood they will file charges at this point is very low
