i basically tried to steal about $50 worth items from urban outfiters in downtown vancouver but alarm went on and i got caught.
im an international student who just graduated and that was my first time trying shoplifting.
since i don't live with my parents, i had to call my guardian but did not wanna bother them
so the manager of urban outfiters called police and we basically talked.
the police was actually nice and just wrote down my basic information on her note
she also told me that this event will not go on my record because im minor and the manager did not want to do so. so i thought that everything is done except im now disallowed to enter the shop.
it happened in very first week of may and i just recevied a letter that says i have to pay $300 fine
it is not from RCMP or urban outfitters, but from palmer, reifer & associates.
the letter says that they are legal counsel for urban outfitters and charging me $300 for my shoplifting
but the manager and the police never mentioned such thing and im just afraid that what if they sue me
my question is should i pay this or not?
