First offense petty theft - do I need a lawyer?

Why didn't you get the CD key from off the internet? I don't use it that way, but i KNOW it isn't hard to get a cd key off the internet. . . Maybe you could argue for "destruction of property" at $50, hopefully they'll let you off with a civil infraction.

Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Roommate Accused of Serious theft (Please Help!)

Oh, and if I remember right, CDw is indeed wise, but is a police officer?

Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Roommate Accused of Serious theft (Please Help!)

I disagree with CDw on this one. NEVER speak to the police without an attorney present. Getting arrested might be traumatic, but it probably won't happen in this case with what you said. Anything you say to a cop at this point will only help build the case against you, even if it seems flimsy...

Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication Drinking in Public, Pt Pleasant, New Jersey

A civil infraction ticket isn't like the bill at a restaurant. I'm pretty sure the person to whom the infraction is written to will pay the entire thing, otherwise, you'll get something in the mail.

cops that are liars and think their above it

Fight the charge! If you get a good defense attorney, hopefully you can reduce things to a civil infraction.

You know more about it then I do(having wife "own" the guns), CdwJava! I'm just repeating what Good ol' G. Gordon Liddy does.

Weapons, Guns, Firearms MO. Gun question

Contact a criminal defense attorney and see if you can get your record expunged. This is used in in counties in Michigan, for example, to let the probationer/parolee know what their punishment will be if they screw up. It's like an axe hanging over their head. There is still a record of the...

Justice System, Police, Courts Perjury in dependency trial

You don't really file a perjury charge. You contact the prosecutor for that area and tell them what happened. Then they decide.

I agree, Cdw. The case in Michigan became national news.

Thanks for the input CdwJava. A curious case this is, indeed. I assumed Oregon. Whoops.

Drug Crimes, Substance Abuse 5.0 Alchol level, died from poisoning

A lot of specifics are required in this case. Dramshop law may apply, etc. A .50 blood alcohol level in the average 170lb male will result if he drank, roughly, an entire bottle of 40%alcohol in 1 minute then waited 20 minutes.

All the numerous individuals are liable. Further, if he got drunk to such an extent at a bar, that bar is liable, as are the employees that served him. Such a case happened here in Michigan (Rick's Bar in East Lansing) and it was shut down for a year, and caused harsher penalties to be...

The idea that you can steal, get caught, but owe nothing is ludicrous. You need to take a serious look at your belief system.

    False Accusations (HELP)

Hire an attorney. Ask about "Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress." I also recommend you try to have his visitations cut entirely, or to always involve a state social worker.
