I think I may have been scammed out of a lot of money

I think I may have been scammed out of a lot of money by either a old "friend" of my or someone posing as them. About 3 months ago I was contacted on Facebook by someone who I have known for a long time claiming that they needed some money in order to make it through the current time. At first I was very skeptical but when the person sent an audio clip of them speaking as well as references to when we were very young I thought it was legit and sent some money. The person directed me to the Cash App to send money. At first I sent only a small amount of money (I believe about 25 dollars) but over the next 3 months the person kept messaging me asking for some money and in the end I sent several hundred dollars with the expectation that I would receive they money back when the person was able to do so. Well in the last few weeks my money has gotten very low and I asked the person if they could pay some back (but also said that it was ok if they could not do so right now) and mentioned about my situation. Well it now looks like the person has blocked me on Facebook and the entire thing was a scam. I am also starting to think though that the person was forced to do this by someone and was not doing it willingly (which is a felony in its own right). I was wondering if I have any legal recourse in trying to get the money back. Since there was no formal agreement or contract binding the person to repay me I can see why there might not be. However I think the person may have been forced against their will to ask for the money. This is someone who I have been very close to for a very long time and even attended her wedding a few years ago among other things over the years. However I still think it is still possible that she scammed me out of all of the money and never had any plans to pay me back which is why she has now blocked me on Facebook. If there is any legal recourse I would like to know. I do still have all of the receipts on Cash App of the money I sent over the last few months.

What state?

You were scammed. Don't try to rationalize it.

Be thankful it was only a few hundred.

Life lesson from the school of hard knocks.

Another thing that I forgot to mention is that I do have a documented disability if I could show that rendered me incapable of understanding the entire situation.

If you wish to claim legal incompetence, then you will need an attorney to represent you in court.

I'm pretty sure it was the person who I have known for a long time. It is possible someone could have forced her to do those things but I am starting to think that she did it freely herself.

How long ago was it you last spoke to this person before the scam? I get the feeling it was a childhood friend that you have had no further contact with.

I've kept in touch with the person for a long time, it was 3 months ago that the person started asking for money but we have been in touch for years before that.
